It’s easy to get lost in the candles, herbs, and specialized rituals of magick, but at the heart of it all is one unifying theme - focus and energy into a set intention. After all, as the tenet goes, magick goes where intention flows.
Every New Year, people all around the world cast a kind of magick spell without even realizing it simply by focusing their energy on an intention for the year to come. It’s a beautiful time of reflection but also a time to turn inward and evaluate past and current goals. Of course, goal-setting is really just another way of saying setting your intentions.
How do you want to feel next year? What do you want to accomplish? Who do you want to surround you? Where do you want to go? There’s no better time to meditate on your desires.
There’s magick in the air and, as we close 2019, we’re not just closing out one year, we’re closing out an entire decade!
If you’re not familiar with the practice, here’s a quick, no-nonsense guide to setting an intention:
- What do you want? You can meditate, journal, reflect, commune with ancestors - whatever you do when you need to bring clarity to a situation.
- When do you want it? While we have long-term goals, we also love to shine that energy on the short-term. Next week, next month, next full moon? When would you like your intention to come to fruition? Be specific.
- How do you want to feel? Fully embody your intention. Picture how it will feel when it happens.
- Finally, own it. Bring your intention into the present tense. Prosperity flows to me. I am presence. I welcome amazing opportunities and people into my life. It’s not just enough to want it, you have to know it’s yours.
A tangible symbol of your intention - like a talisman - can help you superpower your focus. Check out previous Blessed Be Magick blog posts to find out exactly what a talisman is and how to use one.
